Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose…

It's winter break at St. Vladimir's, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy's crawling with Guardians—including Rose's hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn't bad enough, Rose's tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason's got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa's head while she's making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy's not taking any risks… This year, St. Vlad's annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price…

I Liked:
  • Rose's loyalty toward Lissa. It was amazing how she always made sure that her friend was happy. It was also a bit sad when she said only the Moroi matter.
  • Rose and Janine interaction. While they are mother and daughter I just can't see them as such even at the end when they do start to understand each other. Yet I love the relationship between the two.
  • Rose does not whine about not being with Dimitri. She tries to get over him and I appreciate her effort. Even if it does not work.
  • Rose may have been petty at times but she knew when to suck it up and move on, eventually.
  • Rose tried to control her actions. And while she did act out of control many times there was a very convincing explanation hinted at toward the end of the book.
  • The last two chapters were very powerful. They really made me feel for Rose and what happens. It is really sad but what makes it sadder is the fact that I had jokingly thought that it would happen to make the story easier.

I Did Not Like As Much:
  • The Prologue. It was a complete summary of the first book and I did not need the recap.
  • Lissa. I could not like her. She was a bad friend in the first book. She is the worst friend ever in the second book. It always has to be about her. Lissa. Lissa. Lissa.
  • Reviewers calling Rose a slut. What? She makes out with a few people in this book and she is a slut but when Lissa has sex with a guy she did not even really like in the first book (it is mentioned and not actually shown) and with Christian in the second book no one says anything.
  • "Lissa's dying clan." Yes, I get it. She is the last of the Dragonmir's. Please stop repeating it.
  • Strigoi, Moroi, Molnija, etcetera.
  • The conflict at the end was a bit boring. At least to me it was.
  • Did she really need to create a love triangle as soon as she lost someone in the first one. So unneeded.
