Harm no human...

A hired gunslinger, William Jessup Brady lived his life with one foot in the grave. He believed that every life had a price. Until the day when he finally found a reason to live. In one single act of brutal betrayal, he lost everything, including his life. Brought back by a Greek goddess to be one of her Dark-Hunters, he gave his immortal soul for vengeance and swore he’d spend eternity protecting the humans he’d once considered prey.

Orphaned as a toddler, Abigail Yager was taken in by a family of vampires and raised on one belief- Dark-Hunters are the evil who prey on both their people and mankind, and they must all be destroyed. While protecting her adoptive race, she has spent her life eliminating the Dark-Hunters and training for the day when she meets the man who killed her family: Jess Brady.

A gun in the hand is worth two in the holster...

Jess has been charged with finding and terminating the creature who’s assassinating Dark-Hunters. The last thing he expects to find is a human face behind the killings, but when that face bears a striking resemblance to the one who murdered him centuries ago, he knows something evil is going on. He also knows he’s not the one who killed her parents. But Abigail refuses to believe the truth and is determined to see him dead once and for all.

Brought together by an angry god and chased by ancient enemies out to kill them both, they must find a way to overcome their mutual hatred or watch as one of the darkest of powers rises and kills both the races they’ve sworn to protect
I really like this series but for some reason I have yet to read any of the books in the right order. I keep telling myself that I will and soon but it never happens. The fact that I have no idea what number this book is probably goes a short way to convince you of this fact because there really are a lot of books in this series.

I really enjoy the covers of this book because of the fact that they really don't look like your typical romance novel. The fact that there is an actual plot that runs through every single book is another thing that puts it apart from many books that are from the same genre. I may just be very easily embarrassed but I would prefer not to let everyone know that I am reading a bodice ripper while on the train. And let's face, most bodice rippers have Fabio on the cover looking off into the distance with some damsel swooning in his arms. I like this cover so much because I am a closet romance reader. Or maybe undercover would be a better way to word it?

I rarely like series that have different main characters for every book and yet it just works for the Dark Hunter series. In this book there is an old cowboy and a girl who is absolutely certain that when she was a child that Sundown killed her parents while she hid under the bed. I like Abigail, the woman who is going around killing the Dark-Hunters. She is only trying to do what she thinks is good for everyone based on what she grew up being told. Sundown (or Jess) only wants to live his unlife while bugging his squire as much as he can and have as much fun as he can doing it all while trying not to think about how his best friend betrayed him so long ago. When they meet it is electric and I like how they slowly learn to first tolerate each other and then like each other and then love one another. That was not a spoiler personally because if you have actually read any Dark-Hunter book than you would be very familiar with this pattern. And that is my justification for saying that Jess and Abigail end up playing twister together. I really love euphemisms for sex. Opps!

I would recommend this book even if you have not really read any Dark Hunter book before. Not everything will make sense but a lot of it is explained. However if you really can not stand reading them out of order I would suggest checking out a few at the library before buying any of them because most of them are very similar and there is no point in buying all twenty-something of them if you will not enjoy them all.
