Live fast, fight hard and if you have to die then take as many of your enemies with you as you can. That is the Amazon credo and it was one Samia lived and died by. Now in contemporary New Orleans, the immortal Amazon warrior is about to learn that there’s a worse evil coming to slaughter mankind than she’s ever faced before.

Shapeshifter Dev Peltier has stood guard at the front of Sanctuary for almost two hundred years and in that time, he’s seen it all. Or so he thought. Now their enemies have discovered a new source of power- one that makes a mockery of anything faced to date.

The war is on and Dev and Sam are guarding ground zero. But in order to win, they will have to break the most cardinal of all rules and pray it doesn’t unravel the universe as we know it.

Even though I find this cover generic I did find that it did have some relevancy to the actual contents of the book. That is always a good thing especially since the description of the mate mark was not really that detailed and what is described only shares a loose resemblance to what the symbol on the cover looks like.

There are way too many characters to keep track of in this series and for the most part Kenyon only introduces a handful of them each book with old and new characters being slowly integrated into the series so as not to bombard you with too many at once. So without further ado I say, "Yikes!" I could almost not count on my hands how many new people came into this book combined with how many old characters were introduced. It was a tad overwhelming and without her site that has a profile for almost every character mentioned in all of her series I may have been more annoyed by that fact and most certainly more lost. Luckily for me the majority of the book centered on the two main characters.

Before I get into the two main characters I want to mention Nick. I am sick and tired of his story arc. That is a huge reason why I am not planning on reading the Nick Chronicles. He has a stick up where the sun don't shine and I am so over his 'woe is me, everything is Acheron's fault' attitude. I stopped liking him the moment that he slept with Simi but I started to down right hate him the moment that he turned out to be a demon. I realize that the reason he needed to be something more is because now that Ash is not negotiating with Artemis someone needs to but I really don't want to read anymore about Nick.

I want to start with Dev. The books that I have read have not really put in as a prominent player in the plot so it was interesting to learn more about him. He has a lot of guilt over the deaths that have occurred in his family over the years and while it was in the book it was not really the main point of the book. That privilege belonged to Samia.

Samia is an Amazon women and she became a Dark Hunter because of her sister. It is not really explained in the book why but after a whole lot of guessing and speculation I like to think I have the general picture. Sam kicks a lot of butt and has the power of psychometry, which is the ability to see the past, present, and future of someone or something just by touching it. This ability is less awesome than is sounds because Sam can not touch anything that anyone else has touched and the ways that she goes around her power sound very suck-ish for her. She is also has empathy which was very similar to her psychometry except that it works with a larger range.

I would recommend this book if you like the series but at the same time this is another I would suggest that you take out at the library. If you like it enough to want to read it multiple times than I say go ahead and buy it but it seems that many of the books after Acheron are very different from the beginning of the series and many of the natives are getting restless with the change.
